Hidden in Plain Sight
wood, copper, brass and mirror
This unique jewellery cabinet contains a collection of secret jewellery pieces, subtly imbricated in
the front panel. Only by carefully observing the intricate details can one discover these hidden
treasures, which can then be detached from their frames using a special tool. To reconnect with
her culture, Paloma Figueroa explored Mexican craft heritage and discovered jewellery from the Monte Albán archaeological site in Oaxaca. Inspired by these objects, she created her own
aesthetic vocabulary, abstracting the graphic forms of Mexican prehispanic civilisations while
preserving the delicate feel of their jewellery in a contemporary form. The cabinet offers a new approach to storing and caring for precious objects, creating an intimate ritual that asks for time and attention. It invites curiosity and fascination, encouraging us to reconsider our relationship with jewellery and reconnect with it in a sentimental, meaningful way.
