Candle rings
casted tin The Candle Rings are an unexpected kind of candleholder, ones that rest on a finger rather than a living room table. Through this project, Paloma Figueroa questions the purpose and functionality of jewellery, pushing accessories like rings beyond their emotional or aesthetic value.
These pieces require the wearer’s participation to be fully activated. At first, they appear as rough, stone-like rings, but their true nature is revealed once candles are placed within them, transforming the act of wearing into a performative, almost ritualistic gesture.
Yet their function remains intentionally impractical. The wearer must move carefully to avoid dripping wax, becoming more aware of their own hand movements and physical presence. In doing so, the project challenges the traditional boundaries of jewellery, reimagining its relationship with the body, use, and expression.
