PlayThings

textile, rope, steel tubes

PlayThings is a collection of furniture objects that was created with the intention to bring fun and lightness to grown ups and to awaken the child-like spirit and curiosity that sometimes sleeps for too long.

Inspired by childhood memories of softness and naivety, Paloma Figueroa nurtures these objects with a gentle yet playful spirit, bringing a sense of familiarity to an object never seen before. By using things such as pool noodles, marshmallows and textile flowers as tools to research softness, compositions and materialities, she gave herself the purpose to take seriously what is considered unserious. She uses building principles from toys and graphic elements from playgrounds as a visual vocabulary and an ongoing space for creation.

In Paloma Figueroa’s imaginary of playfulness, the textile takes a crucial role as it allows for comfort, movement and a reconnection with tactility. This collection inspires play by the scale of the soft textile petals and by proposing an array of textures that ask to be grabbed, folded, caressed.
